The Netherlands has made smart mobility the central theme for the Informal Transport Council during the 2016 EU Presidency. This meeting was held on Thursday 14 April, in the Amsterdam Maritime Museum, and brought together 28 European transport ministers.

For the first time they discussed self-driving connected vehicles, cars and trucks. Hands-on experiences during the European Truck Platooning Challenge 2016 was also on the agenda. The EU ministers signed a declaration on automated and connected driving. This reflects the belief that real progress demands far more intensive international cooperation between the European Commission, EU member states and industry.
